Erica R. Nesmith

Founding Attorney

I am very cognitive that there are many highly trained and competent attorneys in North Carolina. I have respect for all of them. Still, what many attorneys tend to forget is that at the heart of any legal matter is a client with true questions and concerns. Attorneys are trained to be problem solvers, to analyze a problem, and then find a solution for that problem. This is a skill that we have developed for years and all wish to master. What we don’t learn in law school is how to genuinely care about our clients, you either have that innate trait or you do not. I am blessed to have it. I was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. My mother first introduced me to the legal arena, as she is and has been a paralegal for over thirty years. It was through her unbelievable ability to relate to and cultivate relationships with clients that I learned what real legal representation is about. In a like manner, my father taught me about entrepreneurship, as he, like his own father, is a successful entrepreneur. I matriculated through the legendary Spelman College and received a Bachelors of Arts in English. While in undergrad I decided that I wanted to leave my comfort zone and take a semester away from Spelman to do a study abroad program in Florence, Italy. I went there at age twenty, not knowing the language or the people, and learned to survive in sometimes uncomfortable situations. After returning back to school, I decided that I wanted to graduate a semester early. I graduated and embarked on an internship program in Washington, D.C. working for Congressman Mel Watt (D-NC, 12th District). It was a great experience in my life to be able to share the same halls as our country’s policymakers. In the fall of 2009 I entered law school at North Carolina Central University School of Law where I received an exemplary legal education. While in law school, I interned for the Public Defender’s office of Durham County, Simmons Law Firm, and legendary civil rights law firm, Ferguson Stein Chambers Gresham Sumter, P.A. I had invaluable opportunities with each experience and use what I learned there in my own practice. When I am not serving my clients, I enjoy vinyasa yoga, fine dining, and browsing through fashion magazines.
